This course will describe and discuss the recent evidence base for a critical understanding of some of the most common psychological disorders. The first lectures will provide a definition of clinical psychology and will introduce current approaches in psychopathology as well as the most commonly used classification systems and research designs to identify and intervene on clinical symptoms. The following lectures will describe and discuss theoretical models to explain the development and maintenance of psychological disorders, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and personality disorders. These lectures will also present an overview of evidence-based treatments for these conditions. The final lecture will describe and discuss general principles and practice in emergency psychology.
