Welcome to this online course on the International Protection on Human Rights. It consists of 10 lessons of approximately two hours each. As for the content, theoretical aspects will alternate with specific subjects concerning some major contemporary problems in the interpretation and application of traditional human rights. Human rights are profoundly rooted in the conscience of individual, groups and communities. They are recognised and applied even before their endorsement by positive law. This conviction will inform all our course, as well as the specific solutions we will adhere to when examining individual human rights.

The first three lessons aim to clarify some basic concepts on the nature of human rights, to trace back the historical origin of the idea of human rights, along with their general features and categories. We will then describe the existing systems on the international protection of human rights and the means and modalities they afford to assure respect for human rights.

In the following lessons, we will examine particular topics such as the protection of migrants, antisemitism and racial discrimination, the freedom of religion in international law.
