The aim of this course is to allow a student, already possessing a basic knowledge in general chemistry, to understand the structure and reactivity of organic molecules, their functional groups and stereochemical characteristics. A particular focus will be given to the classes of biomolecules fundamental for living organisms. Last but not least, the course will provide a basic knowledge on the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique as the main method of investigating the structure of organic molecules. The set of this knowledge should lead the student to understand the role and impact of organic chemistry in biological phenomena as well as in its applicative aspects for sustainability and circular economy.
